The Northern Irish government has published its plan for managing the pressure that winter is expected to place on the health service this year. The Winter preparedness plan 2023/24 provides details of numerous investments and initiatives. These include strengthening urgent and emergency care to provide alternatives to emergency departments, providing GPs with £3.4m to enhance out of hours and general medical services, increasing capacity in the ambulance service and enhancing hospital capacity. The plan also includes performance targets to monitor ambulance handover times and complex discharges.
