Event / Annual Conference bursary 2023

We are delighted to announce the release of HFMA North West Branch Annual Conference bursary.  Thanks to the generosity of colleagues at NHS England North West we have 12 full places available for our colleagues across the patch to bid for so that they can attend the 20223 HFMA Annual Conference in London, from 6-8 December 2023.

You can do this by nominating yourself or apply on behalf of a colleague.

Why should you apply?

The conference will provide a fantastic opportunity to network with finance professionals, to listen to leading figures in NHS finance and world-renowned healthcare speakers, as well meeting senior leaders from across the NHS including Julian Kelly, Chief Finance Officer of NHS England, members of the National finance leadership team as well as many other senior colleagues from across the country.

In 2022, NHS England North West sponsored 10 staff, and 100% satisfaction was reported by the delegates, from application to pre-meetings, conference content and meeting their development objectives.  Some of these staff have now volunteered and are part of the HFMA NW Band 2-6 committee.

Who can apply and how to apply?

If you work at a grade 8a or below and are a member of HFMA (membership is free to all staff in bands 2 to 6 and applications can be made here) you can nominate yourself, or be nominated by a line manager or work colleague, by submitting an

Closing date for nominations:  Midday - Monday 30th October 2023

How is the bursary judged?

A panel will review the nominations and award places on merit, ideally ensuring a fair spread across the ICBs.

The panel members will include:

1. Nik Khashu, North West Regional Director of Finance, NHS England  
2. Chris Harrop, Managing Director, MIAA
3. Alice Forkgen, Associate Director of Finance, Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Chair of the North West Sponsees Network
4. Suzanne Robinson, Executive Director of Finance and IM&T, Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, and SRO Value Makers, One NHS Finance
5. Previous winners from the 2022 North West competition.

Support before, during and after the conference

1.    Before the event you will be invited to a one-to-one meeting with your Director of Finance.

2.    You will be invited to join a series of introductory sessions via Teams to meet NHSE North West senior finance staff and provided with tools for networking and understand what to expect at the conference.

3.    You will be assigned a buddy ahead of the conference to help you prepare for the conference. Buddies will be an experienced system partner finance professional to ensure that you are able maximise the networking opportunities.

4.    Your buddy will chaperone you at the conference.

5.    You will be invited to events after the event with NHSE colleagues and have the opportunity to continue networking with other competition winners.
