Briefing / Using the apprenticeship levy
All NHS bodies are affected by the apprenticeship levy but the impact will be different in each of the devolved nations. In England, employers will be able to access the amount they have paid in levy via a digital account which can be used to cover the costs of training apprentices.
The use of the levy has been on the agenda of the Provider TIG for some time now and we are aware that some NHS bodies are accessing all of the levy that they have paid plus the 10% top-up provided by the Government whilst for other NHS bodies the levy is an additional cost pressure.
The survey identified that the levels of recovery in 2017/18 are low but are expected to rise by 2019/20.
