Finance directors appear in bullish mood about the short- and medium-term prospects for NHS finances, despite big challenges in meeting the efficiency targets built in to the comprehensive spending review settlement. In the HFMA’s annual survey of NHS finance directors across the UK, more than 87% reported that their organisations broke even or made a surplus in 2006/07 (71% had made a surplus).
