News alert / Department report and accounts 2022/23
The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has published its annual report and accounts, detailing how the Department funded its activities and used its resources during the financial year 2022 to 2023. The DHSC Group has the largest departmental expenditure limit (DEL) in government and the accounts consolidate the spending of around 400 health and care organisations. The accounts show the spending breakdown for the total DEL was £185bn – £176bn of which was resource (as opposed to capital). There was a £0.9bn (0.5%) overspend on the resource DEL as a result of a £2.7bn funding pressure on the 2022/23 pay award offset by underspends on depreciation and Covid-19. There was an underspend of £1.3bn against the group capital DEL. The NHS England annual report and accounts and the consolidated provider accounts have also been published. (See News.)
