About this event
This online forum bought together the finance functions from across the four nations to consider the important part NHS colleagues play in delivering effective and financially sustainable patient outcomes and services.

To give a brief overview of the Highland demographics, our past as a challenged Health and Social Care system and the approach we are taking to move towards sustainability.
In June 2022, HSC NI established the Performance and Transformation Executive Board, the remit of which included the driving forward and implementation of regional and system-wide operational improvements and transformation. As part of the programme a Regional Agency Reduction Implementation Steering Group was established to develop and implement a plan to safely facilitate and manage the service impact of reducing unsustainable agency and locum expenditure.
During 2023/24 HSC has effectively removed general utilisation of off-contract nurse agency entirely. This presentation talks through the case for change, the critical success factors which enabled this system-wide change including the whole-system collaboration, local factors and other co-dependencies.
A reflection of the current challenges facing Welsh Health Boards as we enter 2024/25 and the approaches being developed to identify opportunities to improve financial sustainability.

Ed gave an update on the national approach to the financial challenge and how this has impacted on the work of local systems, both in terms of now and the recovery ahead.
