Feature / PBR for ambulance services - briefing
The case for introducing payment by results for the ambulance sector is set out in a new briefing from the HFMA. As part of a series of briefings that contribute to the debate on NHS finance, PBR for ambulance services examines the arguments for expanding the existing payment by results system to the ambulance sector. It sets out the current arrangements for funding emergency ambulance and patient transport services and looks at the benefits of moving to a tariff-based system. The briefing also looks at the issues that need to be resolved if a tariff or national currency are to be introduced and examines some of the early work of ambulance trusts in piloting options for tariffs.
