Commissioners and providers in England have been given notice to prepare for a national chemotherapy tariff starting in 2012/13.

Chemotherapy is currently outside the scope of PBR. But a report from the National Chemotherapy Advisory Group, welcomed by the Department of Health, said commissioners should ensure coding and costing was in place with immediate effect to support HRG4. There should then be a year of shadow running followed by a year of using local costs applied to the HRG framework, before the full tariff is implemented in 2012/13.

Under HRG4, the unbundled chemotherapy HRGs are split between drug procurement (regimen) HRGs and delivery HRGs. There are 10 regimen bands.
