The HFMA has revealed a strong line-up of shortlisted candidates for its annual awards this year.

Four candidates have been shortlisted in each of the nine categories, with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust making the final judging stage in four categories. The trust has been shortlisted for Accounts Team of the Year, the Governance Award and the Havelock Award. Stuart Murdoch, a clinical director and consultant anaesthetist at the trust, is also in the running for the Working with Finance – Clinician of the Year Award.

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, which took the Accounts Team title last year, has again been shortlisted in the category. Rotherham Clinical Commissioning Group and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust complete the accounts award line-up.

South Tees Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is up for two awards – Maxine Hewitt-Smith makes the Deputy Finance Director of the Year shortlist, while the trust is also in the costing category.

The North West of England dominates the shortlist for Finance Director of the Year, with three representatives - Joanne Newton of Central Manchester Clinical Commissioning Group, Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group’s Tom Jackson and Simon Worthington of Bolton NHS Foundation Trust.

Paul Dunn of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is the only non-North West finance director to make it onto the shortlist.

The awards, which have been running for 11 years, include a special category this year, run by the HFMA and future-focused finance – the FFF Award.

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is particularly well represented, with two candidates on the shortlist – Jonathan Gamble and Pam Kaur. Also on the shortlist are Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group’s Matt Greene and Gayle Wells of Wigan Borough Clinical Commissioning Group.
