Six finance directors have been shortlisted for this year’s HFMA Finance Director of the Year Award. The winner will be announced at a gala dinner and awards ceremony at this year’s HFMA annual conference in December.

The directors will hope to emulate Jane Tomkinson (pictured above) of the Countess of Chester Hospital Foundation Trust, who won the inaugural finance director award last December.

The award, in conjunction with Public Sector Consultants and the Department of Health, rewards professional excellence in financial management and leadership. The shortlist is:

  • Jayne Deaville, South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare FT
  • Alex Farrell, Calderdale PCT
  • Sue Jacques, County Durham and Darlington FT
  • Guy Musson, Leeds Partnership FT
  • Alan Pond, East and North Hertfordshire and West Hertfordshire PCTs
  • Tony Waite, Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust.

The shortlist for the Accounts Team of the Year Award, sponsored by the Department and KPMG, is: Hampshire PCT; Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Trust; Somerset PCT.

Two organisations are up for the Clinical Engagement Award, run in partnership with the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence: NHS?Manchester and Sherwood Forest Hospitals FT.

HFMA chief executive Mark Knight said the awards had attracted an excellent response. ‘This is an opportunity to showcase the best in NHS finance and governance. We’ve had excellent entries across all the awards and the standard of the shortlists is exceptional.’

There are also awards for the commissioner and provider of the year and for best practice in governance, efficiency and finance skills development.
