Department of Health director general for finance and chief operating officer Richard Douglas was given a Special Recognition Award for his contribution to the HFMA’s development, while Northern Ireland branch chairman Cathy McKillop’s long service and leadership was also recognised.

The final Special Recognition Award went to Roger Chapman, who is retiring after 32 years in the NHS, for his significant contribution to the HFMA’s corporate governance and audit committee and south-west branch.

Each winner received a Murano-style glass plate. Outstanding Contribution Awards, which also included a £1,000 travel bursary to cover the cost of the US/UK Exchange, were presented to Ray Thomas, assistant director of finance at Countess of Chester NHS Foundation Trust, and the Audit Commission financial management specialist Emma Knowles.
