News / Health check reveals positive progress
The watchdog said 14% of trusts were ‘excellent’ and 23% ‘good’ on use of resources in 2006/07. In 2005/6, 16% of trusts fell into these two categories and 46% were rated in the top two categories for quality of services, againt 41% last year.
Despite an overall improvement in use of resources, the commission said this had to be stepped up as one in four trusts (104) were still rated ‘weak’ in this area. While some trusts had historic deficits, poor financial management remained a problem in many.
Foundation trusts performed better than non-foundation in both parts of the rating, especially on use of resources. All 19 trusts that were ‘excellent’ for quality of services and use of resources were foundation trusts.
